Vanguard is committed to helping clients strengthen their business performance through robust change -- change that endures and that allows continuing adjustment to changing needs. This means taking an aligned approach to change, based on the following principles.

Results are what count. We work with clients to first clarify needs and desired outcomes and then move backward to design and align services, tools, and programs that will produce those outcomes.

Organizations are dynamic systems. Any change in one part of the organizational system must fit with the rest of the organization, if it is to last. Sometimes this means modifying other facets of an organization so that they support the change; sometimes it means carefully designing change so that it is aligned with the existing organizational system.

Process change almost always has implications for the behavior of people. New products, services, systems, or processes often require people to behave differently for example, to view their work in new ways, or to interact with customers or internal people in new ways. Change efforts must focus both on business goals and on business values and practices, so that what people do is aligned with the way they do it.

Innovative: We strive to stay at the cutting edge of management and organizational applications, but avoid getting caught up in fads. Our work is based on solid analysis and observation, and on applications of research and experience that have been demonstrated to be practical.

Reliable: We commit to an effort only when we genuinely believe we can make a significant positive contribution.

Open: Openness is a two-way street. Clients are encouraged to freely raise any concern and expect a considered response. In turn, we will openly raise issues that we consider important to the success of a project.

Respectful: We value and respect our clients' views. We recognize our obligation not only to listen carefully and be sure we understand those views, but also to offer constructive alternatives if we disagree.
